Workplace Health is becoming an ever more important business risk to manage. Work related health conditions are often unidentified and the cost unaccounted for. Managing health risk is all about maximising business productivity and profit and about ensuring the workers health is not compromised. A study completed in 2004 highlighted the following:
• There is an estimated 17,000-20,000 new cases of work-related disease in New Zealand every year.
• Of these there is an estimated 2,500-5,500 that are severe.
• Around 75% of these diseases occur in men.
• The most common occupation-related diseases are musculoskeletal
disease, followed by diseases of the ear, skin disorders, chronic
respiratory disease, diseases of the digestive system and cancer.
